The Riding House at Bolsover and the Equestrian Manuals of the Duke of Newcastle.
In 2012-13 English Heritage re-furbished the original riding house built by William Cavendish,Duke of Newcastle at Bolsover Castle in the 1630`s.We are lucky enough to have been chosen as one of the contractors to supply displays of Classical Dressage in the Riding house in 2013.
Newcastle's` book "A General System of Horsemanship" was regarded for many ears as one of the great equestrian manuals and even to day some of his teachings remain as key elements in the FEI dressage rule book.
Newcastle grew up in the early 1600`s and was a firm friend of
the young Prince Henry of Wales. They were both taught by Mon .St.Antoine, himself a student of the great Pluvinel.
Along with Peter Maddison-Greenwell and Mark and Ben Atkinson of the Atkinson Action horses we aim to provide a consistent and exciting display of Newcastle's methods!
Our displays start at Easter March 29th-April 1st.Then run every weekend through until the end of August.
